In the beginning, when God was creating the heavens and the earth, God made the man and the woman on the sixth day. And this is how he did it!
God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living person. His name was Adam. God also planted a special garden called Eden. In it he planted all kinds of beautiful trees which were good for food. In the middle of the garden he planted two special trees, the Tree of Life and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Then he put the man into the garden to cultivate and care for it.
God said to him, "You may eat from every tree in the garden. But you may not eat from that tree in the middle, the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. The day you eat of that tree you will surely die."
Then God said, “It is not good for man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” So God made all the animals to pass in front of the man, and the man gave a name to each animal. But for Adam, no suitable helper could be found.
Then God made a deep sleep to fall on the Man. And while he was sleeping, he took a rib and closed the place with flesh. And from the rib he made a woman. And when the man woke up, God brought the woman to the man. When the man saw the woman, he said, "At last! This is bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh. She will be called woman because she was taken from man.”
Therefore, a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. And the man and the woman were naked in the garden but were not ashamed.
